Email Sequence Template: A 7-Email Welcome-to-Sale Sequence
By Daniel Pope, founder of Be Known - helping businesses market since 2018
Short answer
An email sequence template is a pre-planned series of emails sent automatically after someone joins your list, each with one job. A simple, proven structure is seven emails over about ten days: deliver, introduce, teach, prove, handle objections, invite, and close. Each email should make one point and ask for one action.
The 7-email template
- Email 1 (day 0) - Deliver: send what they signed up for and set expectations.
- Email 2 (day 1) - Your story: why you do this and who you help.
- Email 3 (day 2) - Quick win: one specific tip they can use today.
- Email 4 (day 4) - Proof: a customer story with a before and after.
- Email 5 (day 6) - Objection: answer the biggest reason people don't buy.
- Email 6 (day 8) - Invite: present your offer, price and next step.
- Email 7 (day 10) - Close: a clear, honest deadline or reminder.
Subject line patterns that work
- Curiosity: 'The mistake I made in year one'
- Specific result: 'How Sam booked 6 calls in 2 weeks'
- Direct: 'Your [lead magnet] is inside'
- Question: 'Still stuck on pricing?'
Rules that keep sequences working
Write like a person, not a brand. One link per email. Put the main point in the first two lines because many people only read the preview. Only use real customer stories and results - invented proof destroys trust fast.

How many emails should a sequence have?
Five to seven for a welcome or sales sequence is a good starting point. Longer sequences work when each email still delivers something useful.
How far apart should emails be?
Daily for the first few, then every other day. Spread them out further for cold or less engaged lists.
Can AI write an email sequence?
Yes - if it knows your offer, audience and voice. Generic prompts produce generic emails. The Marketing Vault writes sequences from your saved Business profile and flags anything it can't confirm.
